In what could be a concerning development for FC Barcelona, key defender Eric Garcia has been withdrawn from the Spain starting lineup against England just before kickoff.

The versatile defender had been given the nod at right-back for La Roja’s UEFA Nations League opener against the Three Lions at Wembley.

He was one of five Barcelona stars featuring in Luis de la Fuente’s side, along with Pau Cubarsi, Rodri, Dani Olmo, and Lamine Yamal.

However, the RFEF has issued an official statement confirming the last-minute change, with Eric having been withdrawn due to discomfort in his left knee. Replacing the World Cup winner in the starting XI is Atletico Madrid’s Marc Pubill.

“Change in the starting eleven of the @SEFutbol. Marc Pubill will take Eric Garcia’s place due to discomfort in his left knee,” the statement read.

Barcelona fans will be eagerly awaiting for a more concrete update on Eric’s situation, considering that he is a key player under Hansi Flick and the first-choice starter at right-back.

So far this season, the 25-year-old defender has started six of Barça’s eight matches, playing close to 470 minutes in the process.

He missed the UEFA Champions League clash against Feyenoord due to suspension, while he was rested against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
