Liverpool centre-back Jeremy Jacquet was not satisfied with his performance in France’s 1-0 victory at Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Monday.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a solid debut performance alongside Chelsea’s Maxence Lacroix, helping France keep a second consecutive clean sheet.

French journalist Walid Acherchour praised the centre-back, describing him as the ‘ real deal ‘ and saying that he has all the qualities of a modern defender.

However, Jacquet, reacting to his performance after the game, believes that he could have done better.

“It’s true that as a defender, a clean sheet is the best thing you can do. Especially with the win at the end. I can only be happy,” he told the media .

“But I am not satisfied. I think back to two or three attacking balls, I can do better once I recover. Overall I’m happy, we’re leaving with the three points and the clean sheet.”

The Liverpool youngster is aware of the competition he faces in France’s squad, and that may explain his self-critical assessment.

Upamecano and William Saliba were the first-choice centre-back pairing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Lacroix and Ibrahima Konate providing cover for them.
