London City Lionesses 2 - 0 Brighton & Hove Albion FT

Spain legend Alexia Putellas scored her first goal in English football as London City Lionesses continued their excellent start to the season with victory against Brighton to move second in the Women's Super League.

The two-time Ballon d'Or winner, who joined London City on a free transfer this summer , opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner after Brighton failed to clear.

The hosts added a second in the 92nd minute at Copperjax Community Stadium when Lucia Corrales tapped in Delphine Cascarino's cross following a sharp counter-attack.

Brighton came close to an equaliser in the 35th minute when Emily Murphy headed a looping cross against the crossbar and Kiko Seike volleyed wide on the rebound.

London City also hit the crossbar in the 55th minute with Freya Godfrey's header.

The home side dominated the match and cruised to their third win in four WSL matches to move three points behind leaders Manchester City.

Putellas, 32, is widely regarded as one of women's football's greatest players and won 38 trophies across 14 years at Barcelona, including 10 league titles.
