If it was a bad night for Jack Hendry, whose 11th-minute red card precipitated Scotland's demise against Switzerland, then it was hardly an evening Angus Gunn will look back on with any great fondness either.

"I've never been a big defender of goalkeepers and I'm looking for more from Angus Gunn," was the view of Sportsound pundit Andy Halliday on the Scotland keeper's performance.

The San Jose Earthquakes stopper, 30, was arguably at fault for the first and third of the three goals that hit the back of his net as the Swiss coasted to victory at Hampden in a deeply unsatisfactory first home match under Sebastien Pocognoli.

The opening goal came in the immediate aftermath of Hendry's red card for denying Dan Ndoye a goalscoring opportunity. Scotland thought they had been given a reprieve as referee Nenad Minakovic's original award of a penalty was changed after a VAR review to a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The let-off meant little as Ricardo Rodriguez smashed the set-piece past Gunn on the goalkeeper's side to open the scoring.

"Shoulder height and not a lot of pace," was Halliday's view. "For me I think it's so poor from Angus Gunn."

After Nico Elvedi turned home Ndoye's cross to double the Swiss lead, Zeki Amdouni rifled a shot that went through Gunn's arms and high into the net to make it 3-0.

"I know it's a powerful strike, but that's one that Angus Gunn can keep out," said former Scotland forward James McFadden.
